CAFGU member, companion killed in Sulu ambush

COTABATO CITY, Philippines — A member of the Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) and his female companion were killed in an ambush in Barangay Chinese Pier, Jolo, Sulu, on Wednesday night, August 20.
The victims, Jhunie Pacolanan Medalle of Patikul town and Nuraiza Usman Anni of Tapul, were riding a motorcycle when gunmen opened fire, killing them instantly.
Police investigators later found empty .45 caliber and 9mm shells at the scene. The assailants fled before authorities could respond.
Officials of the Jolo Municipal Police Station and the Sulu Provincial Police Office reported the incident Thursday, August 21, to Brig. Gen. Jaysen De Guzman, director of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region.
The victims were rushed to a hospital by emergency responders but were declared dead on arrival.
De Guzman said investigators are coordinating with the victims’ relatives and barangay officials to help bring closure to the case.
