24 held for drag racing in Bulacan

MANILA, Philippines — Twenty-four people including minors were held for drag racing in San Rafael, Bulacan on Sunday.
The riders were caught racing by agents of the Highway Patrol Group in Barangay Maasim at around 6:10 p.m., according to HPG spokesman Lt. Nadame Malang.
The operation was based on a complaint from a concerned citizen about a group of people on motorcycles engaging in a race every Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
One of the riders reportedly hit a bystander.
An initial operation was conducted on Aug. 3, but the riders managed to escape.
“Some riders were caught performing stunts without protective gear,” Malang said.
Twelve of the riders were minors aged 14 to 17 years, who are residents of San Ildefonso town.
Other suspects were aged 18 to 28 years and came from various towns in Bulacan.
Cases for violating Republic Act 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code and RA 11235 or the Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act as well as alarm and scandal were filed against the suspects.
The minors were turned over to the municipal social welfare and development office for proper disposition.
