Dimasalang Bridge to undergo repairs

MANILA, Philippines — The rehabilitation of the Dimasalang Bridge – a major thoroughfare between the districts of Sampaloc and Santa Cruz in Manila – will start on Aug. 9, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways.
The DPWH said that since a portion of the bridge will be closed to traffic, the public should expect heavy traffic once the rehabilitation and major repairs start at 11 p.m. on Saturday.
The project, which includes retrofitting of piers and abutments, replacement of girders from concrete to steel and complete redecking of slab, is expected to be completed by Dec. 15.
“Motorists are advised to use alternative routes to avoid traffic build-up during the rehabilitation works,” the DPWH said in an advisory.
Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority advised motorists driving to and around Quezon City to plan their travels due to upcoming roadworks along C-5, Quezon Avenue, Payatas Road, Mindanao Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue.
The agency said the DPWH would conduct the road reblocking and repairs until 5 a.m. of Aug. 4.
Also affected by the roadworks are parts of E. Rodriguez Jr. Avenue, Aurora Boulevard and Quezon Avenue.
