MANILA, Philippines — Motorcycle-riding men shot a police officer at a carwash in Makati on Friday.

Makati police confirmed to The STAR that Lt. Dexter Pascua, who is assigned to the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group in Calabarzon, was wounded and is recuperating at a hospital.

A witness, identified only as Tin, said the suspects attempted to rob a woman near the carwash, where Pascua was with his child and another police officer.

“The backrider got off the motorcycle and opened fire. He also fired a warning shot so that no one would follow them as they escaped,” Tin told News5.

According to Tin, an elderly man was struck by shrapnel on his waist.

Col. Reycon Garduque, Makati police officer-in-charge, said authorities are conducting follow-up operations to identify the suspects, both of whom were wearing jackets, shorts and slippers.
