MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has filed criminal charges against a Chinese national for allegedly faking her identity as a Filipino using official government documents.

Wang Xiujun, who initially presented herself as “Casia Palma Poliquit,” was apprehended on July 13 at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport by operatives of the NBI-Cavite District Office and Bureau of Immigration (BI).

“She is facing criminal offenses. We filed the cases at our Taguig office where she will undergo preliminary investigation,” NBI-Cavite agent-in-charge Peter Lugay said.

The NBI said Wang was in possession of Philippine documents such as birth certificate, Philippine passport and a Special Investor’s Resident Visa.

Authorities discovered Wang’s real identity through a biometric investigation conducted by the NBI Dactyloscopy Division, which compared her fingerprints submitted in transactions with the Board of Investments, Department of Foreign Affairs as well as the NBI clearance records.

“She applied for an NBI clearance in 2021 using the name Wang Xiujun. When we retrieved her biometric data under the alias ‘Casia,’ it matched her earlier record,” said NBI Dactyloscopy Division chief Alfredo Kahanding, who presented enlarged fingerprint images showing identical patterns.

Kahanding noted that a single fingerprint match is sufficient to establish a person’s identity.

According to NBI spokesman Ferdinand Lavin, the case is similar to that of dismissed Bamban mayor Alice Guo.

“This is another ‘Alice Guo-like’ case. A Chinese national concealed her real identity and tried to pass herself as a Filipino,” Lavin said.

Wang refused to talk when asked by reporters.

She has been charged by the BI for violating the Philippine Immigration Law.
