MANILA, Philippines — More than 500 families have evacuated in Quezon City due to floods and heavy rainfall caused by the southwest monsoon and enhanced by Severe Tropical Storm Crising.

As of Sunday, the city government said 556 families or 1,938 people had been evacuated.

Most of the evacuees were from Barangay Bagong Silangan where at least 100 families fled their homes.

Mayor Joy Belmonte visited the evacuees to check on their condition.

According to the city government, the evacuation center implemented a new system involving the issuance of evacuation cards to affected families.

This will allow the city to streamline the process and ensure that all evacuees are provided the necessary assistance.

On Saturday night, the local government ordered the preemptive evacuation of residents near Tullahan River after water in La Mesa Dam reached critical level.

City hall also initiated rescue operations for residents living in flooded areas.
