Government engineer killed in ambush

COTABATO CITY , Philippines — Unidentified gunmen killed a municipal engineer in an ambush in Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao del Sur on Wednesday night.

Syed Ariff Malang of Shariff Saydona Mustapha town and his three companions were in a pick-up truck when the assailants waylaid them in Barangay Timbangan.

Malang died at the scene of the ambush while his companions were not harmed, according to Col. Salman Sultan Sapal, Maguindanao del Sur police director.

Relatives said Malang has no known enemies.

Probers of the Shariff Aguak police said they would coordinate with their counterparts in the neighboring town of Shariff Saydona Mustapha to identify the gunmen.
