262 barangays receive good governance award

Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Up to 262 barangays have received the Seal of Good Local Governance from the Department of the Interior and Local Government.

DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla yesterday said these barangays are the first batch of national awardees under the 2024 Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangay (SGLGB) assessment cycle.

More recognition ceremonies will be conducted from this month to October to confer the award on the rest of the 3,283 awardees.

“The award reflects the barangays’ excellent local governance and their commitment to accountability, transparency and responsive service delivery,” the DILG said.

Remulla ordered the SGLGB system restructured this year to align it with the unified, strategic and outcome-based performance evaluation being conducted on all levels of local government.

The restructuring supports the DILG’s goal to make local government units not just compliant, but also transformative.

Remulla said a total of 3,283 barangays, or about eight percent of all 41,610 villages nationwide, received the 2024 SGLG.

These barangays were subjected to performance evaluations in core governance areas, including financial administration and sustainability, disaster preparedness and safety, and peace and order.
