P4.7 million smuggled cigarettes seized in Negros Occidental

MANILA, Philippines — Smuggled cigarettes valued at P4.7 million were seized by agents of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental on Thursday.
CIDG director Brig. Gen. Romeo Macapaz said 186 boxes of cigarettes were confiscated from five men who were arrested in separate police operations in the city.
The first operation was conducted in Barangay 2, where the suspects identified only as Judie, Arnel and Ali were allegedly caught selling the cigarettes.
The arresting team said they found 70 boxes of smuggled cigarettes in the suspects’ vehicle.
The second operation was conducted in Barangay Talaban and resulted in the seizure of 116 boxes of the contraband from two suspects identified only as Brian and Marjun.
Charges for violating the Graphic Health Warnings Law would be filed against the suspects, Macapaz said.
