National artist nomination for Dolphy pushed
MANILA, Philippines — A lawmaker has filed a resolution in the House of Representatives seeking to nominate and declare “Comedy King” Dolphy as a national artist. In filing House Resolution 41, Manila 3rd District Rep. Joel Chua said Dolphy, Rodolfo Vera Quizon in real life, earned multitudes of achievements in the movie industry.
Chua said declaring Dolphy as a national artist is a “fitting tribute for the actor,” who will mark his 97th birth anniversary on July 25.
He asked the House committees on creative industries and basic education and culture to conduct hearings and other steps to formally submit Dolphy’s nomination to the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
Dolphy deserves to become a national artist because of his “magnificent body of work and for championing Filipino values for all generations,” Chua said.
