2 killed, 28 hurt in Zamboanga vehicular mishap

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Two people were killed while 28 others were injured when a passenger bus figured in an accident in Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur yesterday morning.
One of the fatalities was identified as Roy Bermudes while the other victim was a male senior citizen.
Several rescue teams from local and neighboring municipalities along with police and firefighters responded and rushed the injured passengers to a hospital in Pagadian.
Reports said the Rural Transit bus was headed to Pagadian from Sindangan in Zamboanga del Norte when the vehicle lost its brakes in Barangay Mahayahay.

After hitting the tree, the bus fell into a shallow cliff and rolled over.
The passengers, mostly cadets of the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, were on their way to attend a practice for a graduation ceremony.
Police said the bus was speeding.
The driver was brought to the police station for questioning.
