2 Sablayan prison officers dismissed for ‘smuggling’
MANILA, Philippines — Two officers at the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Occidental Mindoro have been dismissed from their posts for allegedly attempting to smuggle liquor and cigarettes into the facility.
The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said camp commander Francisco Madrid and commissioned officer Edgar Laudencia allegedly allowed a dump truck filled with gravel and sand to enter the SPPF’s premises.
The truck was reportedly carrying 279 bottles of whiskey and gin along with over 1,000 packs of cigarettes and tobacco that were concealed under the piles of gravel and sand, the BuCor said.
Truck driver Rob Antaran reportedly admitted that the truck was carrying the contraband.
BuCor chief Gen. Gregorio Catapang Jr. ordered the SPPF’s management to review its policies on deliveries and strictly inspect vehicles entering the facility.
