Comelec sets Abante proclamation

MANILA, Philippines — Manila Rep. Bienvenido Abante will be proclaimed today by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) as the duly elected congressman of the city’s 6th District.
The Comelec yesterday issued a certificate of finality and entry of judgment on the disqualification of Abante’s opponent, Luis Uy.
The city board of canvassers will convene at 9 a.m. today to proclaim Abante.
The poll body has declared Abante as the only qualified candidate for representative of the 6th District of Manila.
The Comelec said its decision dismissing the motion for reconsideration filed by Uy against the resolution that voided his certificate of candidacy became final and executory after the Supreme Court did not issue a temporary restraining order against the ruling within the five-day reglementary period.
“In view of the foregoing, the resolution promulgated on June 30 is hereby declared immediately executory in accordance with Comelec rules and procedures,” the poll body said in a two-page order.
The commission said final and executory means immediately executory after five days from promulgation.
Although he obtained the highest number of votes in the congressional race, the Comelec nullified Uy’s proclamation for being a naturalized Filipino.
