MANILA, Philippines —  A plane bound for Jeddah, Saudi Arabia with 263 passengers on board, mostly overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), returned to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) after one hour and 33 minutes airborne due to a technical problem.

Pilots of Saudia Airlines flight SV-871 radioed the Manila area control center of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) that they were returning to NAIA due to a “defective” weather radar.

The Saudia Boeing 787-10 took off from the NAIA runway at 11:52 p.m. on Wednesday. The plane landed safely at the airport at 1:25 a.m. yesterday.

All passengers on board disembarked and were brought to the NAIA terminal. The airline staff assisted the passengers.

CAAP spokesman Eric Apolonio said they are closely coordinating with the airline and concerned aviation authorities to ensure public safety and to maintain operational readiness at all times.
