Saint’s relic on display at Manila Cathedral today

MANILA, Philippines — The relic of Saint Ezekiel Moreno will be available at Manila Cathedral in Manila today.
Based on the post shared by Manila Cathedral on its Facebook page, the relic of the patron saint of cancer patients will arrive at 9:45 a.m. today. A mass will be held at 10 a.m.
The visit of the relic coincides with the 154th Sacerdotal Anniversary of Saint Ezekiel Moreno, an Augustinian Recollect known for his simple and open spirit.
Saint Ezekiel Moreno, who was ordained a priest in Manila in 1871, was deeply devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
During the next 15 years, he worked at bringing the Gospel of Jesus to the people of the Philippines.
Ezekiel went to Colombia in 1888, where he devoted himself to missionary activity.
He was named the first Vicar Apostolic of Casanare in 1894 and ordained bishop of Pasto, where he remained until 1906.
The saint was diagnosed with cancer in 1906. The diagnosis forced him to reluctantly return for treatment in Spain where he died on Aug. 19, 1906.
Ezekiel was beatified by Pope Paul VI in 1975 and canonized by Pope John Paul II in 1992.
