Woman in Makati sewer under DSWD care

MANILA, Philippines — The woman who went viral after being seen crawling out of a canal in Makati is now under the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
In a statement, DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian said the woman arrived at the agency’s Walang Gutom processing center in Pasay yesterday.
The woman was located by a team of social workers.
“She will undergo a thorough assessment and appropriate intervention by DSWD personnel, based on her situation and needs,” Gatchalian said.
The DSWD plans to give her livelihood assistance in the form of a sari-sari store.
The woman, believed to be a street dweller, emerged from a canal near the Makati Medical Center.
