First mpox case in Zamboanga Sibugay confirmed

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A three-year-old child in Tungawan town became the first mpox case in Zamboanga Sibugay, the Department of Health regional office here confirmed.
According to the Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Health Office (PHO), the child is recovering, following medical care at Dr. George T. Hofer Medical Center in Naga town.
The PHO said both the patient and her immediate family were placed under home quarantine.
Contact tracing was also done to prevent further spread of the disease. People identified as close contacts are monitored, following health protocols.
With the confirmation, the regional health office alerted all its provincial units to be on the lookout for other possible cases.
It noted that mpox is a viral infection that is typically self-limiting and transmitted through close, prolonged physical contact.
Tha Zamboanga city government also urged residents to stay vigilant and observe health protocols similar to that of COVID-19.
