MANILA, Philippines — Up to 14,000 motorcycle taxi riders belonging to Move It are at risk of losing their jobs following an order from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) reducing the company’s fleet by more than half.

Rep. Rodge Gutierrez of 1-Rider party-list yesterday asked the LTFRB to reconsider the one-year moratorium on new riders for Move It.

“We are concerned about the impact of the LTFRB decision to cut its fleet to 6,836,” Gutierrez said. “These hardworking Filipinos provide essential transportation services to the people.”

The LTFRB order, Gutierrez said, underscores the need for the motorcycle taxi bill’s passage into law.

The measure has been approved by the House of Representatives.

Gutierrez said they would ask the Department of Transportation to look into the LTFRB’s decision.
