Red Cross opens ‘blood’ hospital in Parañaque
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Red Cross has inaugurated the PRC’s first hospital-based blood collecting unit and station at the Ospital ng Parañaque.
PRC chairman Richard Gordon said the facility would help patients access blood transfusions directly at the hospital.
“If a patient is already in the hospital and needs blood transfusion, he or she should not be burdened with finding blood,” Gordon said. “This facility ensures that blood is available where it is needed most.”
The facility, Gordon said, would also serve voluntary blood donors, offering them a convenient location to donate blood.
The establishment of the facility was a joint effort of the PRC Rizal chapter, Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez as well as Ospital ng Parañaque officials led by its director Patrick Esmael Cruz.
Olivarez thanked the PRC for the blood station, which he said would benefit 850,000 residents, especially during emergencies and surgeries.
