‘Death of 2 Grade 8 students beyond alarming’

MANILA, Philippines — The fatal stabbing of two Grade 8 students in Las Piñas is “beyond alarming” and a “clear sign of a crisis,” Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian lamented yesterday.
He called on authorities to run after the perpetrators of the crime.
“When violence becomes the language of our youth, we must confront the hard truth that we are failing in our duty to raise a generation grounded on discipline and respect,” Gatchalian said. “If this is how the youth are, we should be worried about the future we are shaping.”
Gatchalian said local government units should implement programs to shape students to be good and responsible citizens.
Police said the victims were stabbed dead by their schoolmates near the Captain Albert Aguilar National High School in Las Piñas on Friday.
City police chief Col. Sandro Jay Tafalla said the victims had a rift with the suspects.
