2 killed in Abra campaign brawl

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — Two politicians were killed following a fight that resulted in a shooting during a campaign sortie in Lagangilang, Abra on Monday night.
Manzano Agdalpen, who was running for a municipal council seat, and barangay chairman Lou Salvador Claro, 57, were declared dead on arrival at the Abra Provincial Hospital and Seares Hospital in Bangued, respectively.
Reports said the incident occurred at around 6:50 p.m. in Barangay Nagtupacan, where Agdalpen and his party mates were conducting a campaign rally.
Initial investigation showed that for still unknown reasons, Agdalpen reportedly punched a certain Rommel Apolinar, who was standing beside him and his companions.
Apolinar sought the help of Claro, prompting the village chief to approach Agdalpen, who reportedly punched the complainant again.
Apolinar reportedly retaliated and a fistfight erupted.
Probers said Agdalpen pushed Claro, who was trying to break the fistfight, and allegedly shot the village chief.
Police said that when Claro fell to the ground, an unidentified gunman shot Agdalpen.
Investigation is ongoing.
