Wage hike takes effect in Bicol region

MANILA, Philippines — At least 100,414 minimum wage employees and domestic workers in Bicol can now enjoy higher earnings after the first tranche of wage increases was implemented on Saturday, according to the National Wages and Productivity Commission.
The NWPC said the new wage order set the daily minimum wage in the region at P415 for employees and P6,000 per month for household service workers.
Meanwhile, labor groups under the National Wage Coalition (NWC) called on President Marcos to certify as urgent the proposed P200 legislated wage increase amid the transport fare hikes.
“It is high time to start engaging Philippine labor, whom the President has not met for three years, and certify as urgent the P200 wage increase to ensure the passage of the historic first-ever legislated wage hike in 36 years since 1989 that every Filipino desperately demands and rightfully deserves,” the NWC said in a statement.
