CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga, Philippines — Two people died after the sport utility vehicle (SUV) they were in collided with a wing van along Maharlika Highway in Cabanatuan City yesterday morning.

According to a report to Central Luzon police chief Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo, passengers Teejay Carurucan, Rosalyn Resaba, Dan Mark Rafael, Baby Jean Rafael and Reina Conchita were in the SUV driven by Wendellwin Villaflor when it collided with the van in Barangay Zulueta.

Villaflor and Carurucan were rushed to MV Gallego Cabanatuan City General Hospital where they were declared dead on arrival. The other four passengers were brought to the Dr. Paulino J. Garcia Memorial Research and Medical Center for treatment.

The van driver reportedly fled after the incident.

In Negros Occidental, a woman died after the car she was riding along with seven others, including four officers, overshot a curve and fell into a 50-meter-deep ravine in Barangay Pandanon, Don Salvador Benedicto town.

The fatality was identified as Daisy delos Santos, 58.

Police identified those injured as Corporals Patrick Panganiban, Jane Claire Batadhay and Hazel Motin and Pat. Calveen Corral, who are all assigned at the Bacolod City Police Office. Also injured were April Rose Megel and two minors.

Emergency responders brought all eight people to the Adventist Medical Center in Bacolod City, where delos Santos was reported to have died.

Initial investigation showed that they were heading to San Carlos City when the accident occurred on Saturday.
