MANILA, Philippines —  A security guard at the Laoag International Airport (LIA) in Ilocos Norte returned a handbag containing cash and documents that she found abandoned at the arrival area on Wednesday.

Rhea Taysa turned over the bag to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines’ security and intelligence service for verification and safekeeping, according to Ronald Estabillo, area center 1 manager at the LIA.

During inspection, the bag was found to contain P146,348 in cash, a US passport, driver’s license and other personal belongings.

The bag was turned over to its owner, a 79-year-old US citizen who arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila and took a connecting flight to Laoag.

The owner thanked and commended Taysa, the airport’s security service team and its personnel for their honesty.
