MANILA, Philippines — Police have identified persons of interest in the killing of a Slovak woman who was found dead with a stab wound in the abdomen at an abandoned chapel on Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan on Wednesday.
Lt. Col. Mar Joseph Ravelo, chief of the Malay police, yesterday said two or more men might be behind the death of Michaela Mickova, 23.
Ravelo said Mickova had mingled with these men.
Asked if the victim possibly knew the persons of interest, Ravelo said Mickova got acquainted with them while she was exploring Boracay.
“The victim was friendly. She made one friend every day during her stay in Boracay,” he said.
Ravelo withheld the identities of the persons of interest, whom he said are not all residents of Boracay.
“We are looking at locals ang foreigners who were maybe present at the place of the incident,” Ravelo said.
Mickova’s decomposing body was found in Barangay Balabag two days after she was reported missing on Monday by her Filipina friend.
She arrived in Boracay on March 1 to attend the wedding of her friend. She was supposed to fly out of the country on March 11.
Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky, Western Visayas police director, vowed to deliver justice to the victim and her family.
Wanky said a thorough investigation would be conducted on the case.
“We will leave no stone unturned until the perpetrators are brought to justice,” Wanky said.
Probers inspected the room of the hotel where Mickova stayed to determine if some of her belongings were missing.
Lt. Col. Arnel Solis, spokesman for the Western Visayas police, said they have yet to receive the result of forensic examinations conducted on Mickova’s body to determine if she was sexually molested.
