2 charged for attack on STAR photojournalist
MANILA, Philippines — Two suspects have been charged with arson in connection with the attack on Michael Varcas, photojournalist for The STAR, whose car was hit by a Molotov cocktail outside his house in Barangay Pinyahan, Quezon City last month.
A man identified as alias Reynaldo and his accomplice remain at large. They were charged with arson under Article 320 of the Revised Penal Code before the Quezon City prosecutor’s office.
A witness reportedly saw Reynaldo holding a bottle of gasoline before the incident. The witness had a conversation with the suspect and followed him until he handed over the bottle to another man.
Reynaldo told the witness to stop meddling as she tried prying him for information.
Police said the suspect was arrested last year for illegal gambling and violation of the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition.
