Pope names new Daet bishop

MANILA, Philippines — Pope Francis has appointed Fr. Herman Abcede as bishop of the Diocese of Daet in Camarines Norte.
According to the CBCPNews, the service provider of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, Francis announced the appointment of Abcede on Tuesday, making him the fourth bishop of the diocese.
Abcede will replace Archbishop Rex Andrew Alarcon, who was reassigned to the Archdiocese of Caceres in Camarines Sur last year.
Abcede is the first member of the Rogationists of the Heart of Jesus in the Philippines to become bishop.
He was ordained in 1996. He is currently the superior of the Community of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary in Parañaque.
Abcede has served as provincial of the Rogationists in Asia and the Pacific.
He obtained his licentiate in Canon Law from the Lateran Pontifical University in Rome and served as Defender of the Bond for the Archdiocese of Manila and the Diocese of Parañaque.
Recently, he served as judge for the Ecclesiastical Court of First Instance of the Parañaque diocese.
