Magnitude 5 quake jolts Davao del Sur

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5 earthquake struck the municipality of Matanao in Davao del Sur yesterday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
Phivolcs said the quake occurred at 9:42 a.m. and its epicenter was located five kilometers west of Matanao.
State seismologists initially reported the quake to be magnitude 5.4 and warned of possible damage to property.
In a revised bulletin released at 10:32 a.m., Phivolcs downgraded the temblor to magnitude 5 and said no damage was expected, but aftershocks may follow.
The quake was felt at Intensity 5 in Bansalan, Digos, Magsaysay and Matanao.
Intensity 4 was felt in Hagonoy and Santa Cruz in Davao del Sur, Kidapawan and Mlang in Cotabato, Malungon in Sarangani, and Tampakan and Tupi in South Cotabato.
