MANILA, Philippines — Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla has signed several treaties with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) involving extradition, mutual legal assistance in criminal matters and the transfer of sentenced persons.

Justice Minister Abdullah Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi signed the deal for the UAE.

“This agreement signifies a collaborative effort to strengthen legal cooperation and ensure justice between both countries,” the DOJ said in a Facebook post.

The treaty signing held in Dubai was witnessed by First Lady Liza Marcos.

“We have taken a big step forward as our country and the UAE signed several agreements on legal assistance, extradition and the transfer of sentenced persons. When push comes to shove, Filipinos should not feel alone in times of need,” Marcos wrote on her Instagram post.

In a separate statement, the DOJ said the three-day World Government Summit was attended by different heads of governments.

“This endeavor aims to champion international cooperation by guiding governments in laying out a feasible working plan to form innovative solutions for future challenges in leadership and governance, inspiring and empowering the next generation of state leaders,” Remulla said.
