Globe blocks 3,000 child porn sites

MANILA, Philippines — More than 3,000 websites containing online abuse of children have been blocked by telecommunications giant Globe Telecom Inc.
Up to 3,096 internet domains with child sexual abuse materials were blocked in 2024 amid Globe’s #MakeItSafePH campaign.
In 2023, 3,047 domains were restricted.
Globe has invested over $2.7 million in advanced content filtering systems.
“Our dedication to addressing online child abuse goes beyond blocking harmful sites. It involves a comprehensive approach that includes technological solutions, strong partnerships and proactive educational programs,” Globe’s chief privacy officer Irish Krystle Salandanan-Almeida said.
Safer Internet Day on Feb. 11 serves as a reminder to protect children from online exploitation, she said.
Since the campaign’s launch in 2017, Globe has remained committed to safeguarding Filipino internet users, particularly children.
Globe has partnered with the Department of Information and Communications Technology, Department of Justice, Philippine Chamber of Telecommunications Operators, United Nations Children’s Fund and Internet Watch Foundation for its ongoing initiatives against online child abuse.– Elijah Felice Rosales
