2,264 Metro cops negative for drugs
MANILA, Philippines — Up to 2,264 intelligence officers assigned with the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) have tested negative for drug use.
The drug testing was held on Jan. 3.
NCRPO chief Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin said the outcome highlighted their dedication to ensuring the integrity of intelligence officers who play a critical role in combating illegal drugs.
On Monday, the police Internal Affairs Service subjected 128 IAS officers and personnel to drug tests at Camp Crame in Quezon City.
They submitted urine samples during the surprise drug testing facilitated by the Philippine National Police Forensic Group.
IAS inspector general Brigido Dulay said the measure aligns with Republic Act 8551, which requires regular and unannounced drug testing among police personnel.
“This random drug testing initiative is proof that the IAS is serious about its commitment to integrity and accountability,” Dulay said in a statement yesterday.
Those who test positive for drug use will be relieved from their posts.
Police personnel whose urine samples will yield a positive result during confirmatory testing will be dismissed from the IAS, according to Dulay.
