MANILA, Philippines — Alleged child sex offender Apollo Quiboloy’s first night at the Pasig City Jail passed without any untoward incident, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) said yesterday.
“There have been no negative reports or incidents from the warden. The situation in Pasig jail is normal,” BJMP spokesman Jayrex Bustinera told Radyo Pilipinas.
Quiboloy will remain in a quarantine cell for up to 14 days, a standard health protocol for new detainees.
After quarantine, he will be moved to a regular cell with around 30 inmates.
“Pasig jail’s congestion rate is 481 percent or five times over its intended capacity,” Bustinera said. “There is definitely no VIP treatment.”
BJMP director Ruel Rivera has instructed jail guards to ensure equal treatment for all detainees, including high-profile inmates.
“The public can rest assured that we are upholding this policy,” Bustinera said.
Quiboloy is facing charges of qualified human trafficking and sexual abuse filed before the Pasig and Quezon City courts.
He was transferred from the custodial center of the Philippine National Police to the Pasig jail on Wednesday.
