2 Koreans arrested for robbery, coercion, grave threat
MANILA, Philippines — Police apprehended two Korean nationals for alleged robbery, coercion and grave threat in Parañaque City over the weekend.
The suspects, identified only through their aliases as Geon, 28, and Park, 28, were nabbed by personnel of the Tambo police substation.
The victim, known only as Changyeon, 35, reported to police that he was robbed by the suspects of P140,000 and a cell phone.
The victim told probers that he allowed Geon to temporarily stay in his condominium in Barangay Tambo since the latter was unemployed and homeless.
Unknown to Changyeon, Geon allowed his accomplice, Park, to enter the condominium.
The suspects reportedly assaulted the victim and took his wallet containing P40,000 cash and his casino VIP card.
The suspects then allegedly coerced him to reveal the PIN code of his VIP card and withdrew P100,000 from it.
The suspects returned to the victim’s condominium to steal additional belongings, police said.
Changyeon managed to escape and reported the incident to police, resulting in the suspects’ arrest.
The suspects were detained at the Parañaque police custodial facility.
“Our officers acted swiftly and efficiently to apprehend the suspects. We are committed to protecting every member of the community, including foreign nationals,” Southern Police District director Brig. Gen. Bernard Yang said in a statement.
