South Korean charged over Clark fire

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga, Philippines — Charges have been filed against a South Korean national who allegedly caused a fire at a gas station at the Clark Freeport in Mabalacat, Pampanga on Thursday.

Sunbin Yim, 41 was charged with attempted homicide, malicious mischief and grave scandal before the Office of the City Prosecutor, according to Lt. Col. Efren David, Mabalacat police chief.

The charges were filed by security guards Jay Romel Rivera and Vinson Corpuz of the Clark Development Corp.

Lina Sarmiento, vice president of the CDC security services group, said Sunbin was spotted naked in his car that was parked near the freeport’s fire station.

The foreigner sped away after sensing that someone had seen him, but his car hit the guards’ motorcycle and crashed into a gas pump of the fuel station, triggering a fire.

David said Sunbin suffered injuries and was taken to the Jose B. Lingad Memorial Regional Hospital in San Fernando City for treatment.

He said the suspect would be detained at the Mabalacat City police once he is discharged from the hospital
