Ex-cop found dead in Batangas

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — A retired policeman was found dead in Tanauan City, Batangas on Monday night.

The body of former police lieutenant Arnel Tobes, 48, was found by Rowena delos Reyes, who was searching for spiders in a grassy portion of Sitio Hipitin in Barangay Janopol Oriental at around 9:30 p.m.

Investigators said the body bore no stab or gunshot wounds.

The victim’s head was wrapped in a transparent plastic sheet and his hands were bound with a nylon rope.

Probers expressed belief that Tobes died of suffocation.

Police are checking reports that the victim was engaged in a rent-a-car business and was last seen driving a car rented by a client.
