MANILA, Philippines — For reportedly incurring a debt of P400, a street sweeper was stabbed dead in Quezon City yesterday.

Police arrested Guillermo Agravante Sr., 76, who is accused of killing 43-year-old Catherine Madrid in Barangay Batasan Hills at past 6 a.m.

Probers said Madrid was rendering duties at the corner of Kagawad Road and Roadman street when Agravante appeared and stabbed her with a bladed weapon.

Agravante fled but was arrested by police during a follow-up operation.

Barangay watchmen brought Madrid to the Rosario Maclang General Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said Madrid and her partner were tenants at Agravante’s house.

The suspect got angry after the couple failed to pay their debt worth P400.

Police said murder charges would be filed against the suspect before the city prosecutor’s office.
