MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation has grounded its Special Task Force after an NBI agent allegedly engaged in inappropriate behavior during a raid in a clinic in Makati.

In a statement over the weekend, NBI Director Jaime Santiago condemned the agent’s actions as “illegal, unlawful, unethical, gruesome, grotesque and outright unacceptable.”

“The NBI will not tolerate any improper or irregular behavior, especially actions that taint the agency’s reputation,” Santiago said.

A case has been filed against the NBI agent before the Makati prosecutor’s office. Sources said the case involved sexual abuse.

The agent has resigned from the NBI.

To prevent similar incidents in the future, the NBI is tightening the selection process of its personnel.

On Sept. 11, NBI operatives arrested Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, Demi Nhor Abelada Robles and Mary Frinces Listones Dalaguite for allegedly operating an unlicensed medical clinic.
