300,000 connections affected by damaged Maynilad pipeline

MANILA, Philippines — At least 300,000 service connections were affected by the water interruption after a 2.2-meter-diameter pipeline of Maynilad Water Service Inc. along Recto corner Delpan Avenue in Manila was damaged by a third-party contractor conducting a drainage construction project.

In a radio interview, Maynilad corporate communications head Jennifer Rufo said the water cutoff started at 10 p.m. on Thursday amid the emergency repair of the damaged pipeline.

“We deployed mobile tankers and at present, at least 66 were deployed and we rented additional 50 (mobile tankers),” Rufo said.

Rufo said areas affected by the water cutoff were portions of Manila, Makati, Pasay, Las Piñas and Parañaque in Metro Manila and Cavite City, Bacoor, Imus, Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario in Cavite province.
