MANILA, Philippines —  The University of the Philippines (UP) has broken ground on the site of its new campus in Dasmariñas, Cavite, eight years since the plan was announced.

UP president Angelo Jimenez said the UP-Dasmariñas Technology Innovation campus would be built on a five-hectare property in the compund of the Villar City’s University Town.

The property was donated by the Vista Land and Lifescapes Inc. to UP.

While the groundbreaking was held early this month, the project was announced during the property donation in 2016.

The construction of the UP Dasmariñas campus was allotted P300 million from the 2024 national budget.

The campus will house a six-story building with a total floor area of 22,932 square meters, according to Jovel Mendoza, chief of the Department of Public Works and Highways-Calabarzon.

Dasmariñas City Mayor Jennifer Barzaga thanked UP officials for choosing the city to be a place where students are empowered to explore their passions, develop their skills and prepare to make impactful contributions to society.
