MANILA, Philippines —  Potholes have appeared along major roads in Metro Manila amid rains brought by the enhanced southwest monsoon.

Broken asphalt and concrete were seen along portions of Aurora Boulevard, C-5 Road, Kalayaan Avenue and Boni Avenue on EDSA, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.

Motorists are advised to avoid potholes, which could flatten tires, damage car suspension and cause misalignment.

Floods were reported along United Nations Avenue, Pedro Gil street and Julio Nakpil street, Malate as well as portions of Taft and Rizal Avenues, according to the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

Floods were also reported along portions of Commonwealth Avenue, University Avenue, Katipunan Avenue and Luzon Avenue in Quezon City as well as the EDSA-Shaw Boulevard tunnel in Mandaluyong.

City officials reported floods on 15 roads in Malabon and 26 roads in Valenzuela.

Up to 50 families in Barangays Potrero, Tinajeros, Dampalit, Maysilo and Tugatog in Malabon have been evacuated as a precautionary measure.

In Valenzuela, around 426 families were evacuated.

Classes in Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela were suspended.

The water level in Marikina River reached first alarm yesterday due to monsoon rains.

The local government said the river’s water elevation reached 15 meters at 10:40 a.m. –  Mark Ernest Villeza, Emmanuel Tupas
