MANILA, Philippines — Two Nigerian nationals accused of extortion have been arrested in a sting in General Trias, Cavite, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) reported yesterday.

The suspects, identified as Nicholas Onyeka and Ifeanyi Anisi, were arrested by agents of the NBI-Cybercrime Division based on a complaint filed by Cheryl Anne Aquino.

Aquino sought the help of the NBI after Onyeka, who was her former partner, threatened to upload explicit videos of her on social media unless she pays him P50,000.

Aquino said she ended her relationship with Onyeka after discovering that he was a member of a syndicate involved in cybercrimes.

The syndicate has reportedly been engaging in global online scams and “sextortion.”

Aquino said that after she broke up with Onyeka, the suspect threatened and demanded money from her in exchange for her and her children’s safety.

Onyeka and Anisi were collared after receiving the marked money from Aquino, the NBI said.

The arresting team seized from the suspects several phones and the marked money.
