7 PDEA agents in kidnap of Chinese face raps

Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Seven agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) are facing charges after they were accused of kidnapping a Chinese executive of an information technology firm in Pasay.

Complaints for kidnapping, serious illegal detention and robbery were filed on Aug. 29 against the PDEA operatives before the Department of Justice.

The police Anti-Kidnapping Group said the 44-year-old victim was kidnapped in a parking lot in Pasay.

The suspects allegedly demanded P50 million in ransom, which was reduced to P13 million.

When the Chinese failed to pay the ransom, the anti-narcotics agents reported the victim’s supposed arrest in Barangay Malabanias in Angeles City, Pampanga for alleged possession of Esctasy pills worth P250,000 on July 31.

PDEA spokesman Derrick Carreon said the agents were relieved from their posts.
