Bulacan dengue cases increase by 85%

MALOLOS , Philippines — Up to 3,805 dengue cases have been recorded in Bulacan from Jan. 21 to Aug. 21 this year, authorities reported yesterday.

The figure is 85 percent higher than the number of infections recorded during the same period last year, according to the epidemiology and surveillance unit of the provincial health office.

The PHO said six dengue-related fatalities were reported this year.

It said among the areas considered as dengue hotspots are five barangays in Angat and Santa Maria towns and four in Marilao.

Also included in the list are two barangays each in the cities of Meycauayan and San Jose del Monte as well as in the towns of Calumpit, San Miguel and San Rafael.

Bulakan, Bustos, Malolos, Pandi, Paombong and San Ildefonso have one village each considered as hotspots for the mosquito-borne disease.

Symptoms of the disease include fever that lasts from one to seven days, redness of the skin due to high fever, loss of appetite, dizziness and vomiting, and nose or gum bleeding.

Bulacan Gov. Daniel Fernando reminded his constituents to seek medical attention once they feel symptoms of the disease.
