MANILA, Philippines — A dump truck that crashed into a van and lost balance clogged both directions of C5 in Quezon City yesterday.

The accident injured eight people and caused almost a standstill during the morning rush hour, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

The truck with license plate NHH 7833 was traversing the southbound direction of C5 when the mishap occurred.

On its right, a motorcycle was supposed to turn left as it signaled its way toward Eastwood Avenue.

Both the truck and the motorcycle turned left and had a close call when the truck crashed into a van heading northbound.

The truck lost balance, causing the huge amount of gravel it was carrying to spill over the road.

Some of the passengers of the van jumped out after it was hit by the truck. Others had to be pulled out from the van as both the truck and the gravel almost flattened the vehicle.

Both the truck and the van blocked two inner lanes of C5 and the entry to Eastwood Avenue.

The passengers were brought for treatment to the Quirino Memorial Medical Center, according to the MMDA’s Metrobase.

The MMDA personnel helped clean up the spilled gravel and remove the damaged vehicles.

The agency said vehicular traffic along C5 reached as far as the northbound direction of Levi Mariano Avenue in Taguig City.

The southbound direction was also clogged with the tail-end of the traffic reaching the Katipunan flyover, the MMDA said.

C5 became passable to vehicles only at noon, almost seven hours after the accident, according to the MMDA.
