MANILA, Philippines — A suspended police officer is in hot water for allegedly stealing eight mountain bikes issued by the Quezon City government to the local police.

The police corporal, whose identity remains unknown, reportedly connived with his wife in selling the bicycles.

The suspect was a former member of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD)’s tactical motorized unit.

He was suspended for six months or from July 16 to Jan. 11, 2025 due to an administrative offense.

The theft was discovered at the QCPD headquarters in Barangay Botocan on Aug. 2.

Police were inspecting the bicycles issued by the Quezon City government to the QCPD when they noticed that eight bikes were missing.

An investigation showed that some of the bicycles were put up for sale by a civilian on Facebook Market for P3,000 each.

When probers contacted the seller, he said he bought the bicycles from the policeman for P24,000.

The suspect and his wife delivered the bicycles to the online seller after he paid in cash.
