MANILA, Philippines — A man was found floating in the floodwaters of Tondo, Manila yesterday after he was reportedly electrocuted.

The body of David Lipon Gerona, 32, was found in front of the Immaculada School along Tayuman street at around 3:30 p.m., according to a report from the Manila Police District (MPD)’s Abad Santos station.

Gerona’s brother, Juni, brought him to the Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center, telling the attending nurse he sustained an electric shock, police said.

He was declared dead on arrival.

The MPD did not confirm in its report if Gerona indeed died of electrocution.

The incident was posted on social media by Facebook user Angelo Cayabyab Buquel, who appealed to the public to avoid the area after a man died of electrocution.

During a meeting with the Metro Manila Council presided by Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos, the Mandaluyong City government reported it received reports of residents suffering from electric shock due to power cables snapping and falling into the floodwaters.

Abalos appealed to the Manila Electric Co. to switch off electricity in flooded areas to avoid casualties.
