Gun ban set for Caloocan barangay plebiscite

MANILA, Philippines — A gun ban shall be enforced in Barangay Bagong Silang, Caloocan in connection with a plebiscite scheduled on Aug. 31, according to the Commission on Elections.

The Comelec previously set the plebiscite for the division of Barangay Bagong Silang in Caloocan City into six separate and independent barangays on Aug. 31.

The information and campaign period for the plebiscite shall run from Aug. 1 to Aug. 29.

In a resolution, the Comelec announced that carrying firearms and deadly weapons shall be in effect from Aug. 1 to Sept. 7.

The poll body said the transfer of officers and employees as well as the maintenance of reaction or strike forces shall also be prohibited during the plebiscite period.

The suspension of local elective officials and the release of prisoners are also not allowed, Comelec said.

A liquor ban shall be enforced from Aug. 30 to 31.
