LAGUNA, Philippines — The Polytechnic University of the Philippines in San Pedro City canceled an examination Friday after receiving a bomb threat through its official student council e-mail address.

Lt. Col. Jaime Federico Jr., San Pedro police chief, said members of the Explosive Ordnance Division (EOD) and police, along with their K-9 dogs, conducted a room-to-room search on all the buildings but found no bomb.

Federico said the threat was reported by a professor to the police station. After three hours of search, the EOD and police declared the school premises safe.

“It’s a prank or false information. There was a schedule from July 19 to Aug. 10 for the examination of students. We suspect somebody or someone simply wanted to postpone the examination,” Federico told The STAR over the phone.

He said they are coordinating with the police anti-cybercrime unit to find the source of the threat.
