MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development is implementing its Walang Gutom 2027: Food Stamp Program in Leyte, bringing to 21 the number of provinces benefitting from DSWD's monetary-based assistance.

Eduardo Punay, DSWD undersecretary for innovation, said each beneficiary gets P3,000 worth of monthly food credit that can be used to procure healthy food in accredited retailers across the country.

“So far, we have accredited 622 retail partners in 21 provinces. They are the Kadiwa centers, agri coops and small grocers, and this will increase further,” Punay said.

He added that the government aims to further expand the voucher program until 2028. The goal is to cover one million households by the end of that year.

According to Punay, DSWD targets 300,000 households nationwide this year. Of that number, 90,057 are in Region 9, followed by Region 8 with 40,408, Region 6 (41,167) and Region 12 (41,597).

Walang Gutom is a priority program of the Marcos administration to provide beneficiaries access to monetary-based assistance and nutrition education that teaches them to prepare healthy and safe meals for the family.
