MANILA, Philippines — The Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) has started examining the contents of the communication equipment and other gadgets confiscated from a suspected Chinese spy arrested in Makati City last month.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) on Thursday night turned over to the ACG the items seized from Yuhang Liu, a Chinese man who was apprehended last May in Barangay San Isidro for illegal possession of a firearm and suspected communication hacking devices.

“The process will be, after the examination, the ACG will provide us with the result,” CIDG director Maj. Gen. Leo Francisco said at a news briefing.

Among these items are three cell phones of different brands, a laptop, a computer central processing unit, an Apple tablet and radio receiver.

The CIDG also handed to the ACG an aerial drone seized from Liu.

Francisco said the court gave the police 10 days to comply with the warrant to examine computer data it issued.

He said they would return the warrant to the court within the period whether there is a result or not.

“If our time will not suffice in 10 days, we will apply for additional time to have this examination,” Francisco said.

Investigators are validating reports that Liu, who is detained under heavy security at Camp Crame, is a spy.
